TAVR- Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a minimally invasive procedure to replace a narrowed aortic valve that fails to open properly (aortic valve stenosis). Aortic stenosis is a progressive disease that can be life threatening and can reduce quality of life due to symptoms including shortness of breath, fatigue and swelling. TAVR replaces the diseased heart valve without removing the old, damaged one by wedging a replacement valve into the existing aortic valve’s opening.
