Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) is if the valves from your legs to the heart don’t work like they should and some of the blood goes back down into your legs. That causes blood to pool or collect in the veins. The failure to circulate the blood properly and cause bulging in the veins is known as varicose veins.
CVI can cause pain, swelling, and skin changes in the legs, according to WebMD. It may also lead to open sores called ulcers on your legs.
Venous insufficiency & varicose veins treatment can be as simple as exercise and leg elevation, but if symptoms are severe, then it may require vein ablation or vein stripping. Venous insufficiency is occasionally treated with angioplasty and stents.
